History Cameron, known as the ‘boy’ around the gym, first walked through the doors of Training Grounds in early 2013 as a fresh faced youngster keen to try the martial arts.
As a local born and bred in the area, Cameron was curious about the new gym in the Crows Nest area, and after walking past a few times he decided to try some classes. Cameron’s regular and consistent attendance at training sessions during the mornings, lunch times and evenings swiftly accelerated his skills, abilities, knowledge and fitness for Boxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
After just 12 months Cameron began competing in amateur Muay Thai and MMA fights. Cameron established a 6 fight win streak and amassed an impressive amateur record in Muay Thai of 6-1.
Simultaneously Cameron was also competing in MMA fights between his Muay Thai bouts, and similarly amassed an imposing amateur record of 4-1 and completed his amateur career as the #1 ranked amateur middle weight in Australia and New Zealand.
In November of 2016 Cameron made his professional MMA debut, becoming Training Grounds’ first professional fighter. Cameron won his debut via 1st round submission and is still currently training and competing as a professional MMA fighter.
Training style Cameron’s training is indiscriminate, over a weeks worth of training you will find him covering all the bases. Cameron can be seen on the Jiu Jitsu mats rolling around, on the heavy bag throwing kicks, punches, elbows and knees, hitting pads whilst coached by his boxing coach Ayo, grinding out a tough wrestling session or sparring with other talented Training Grounds members in MMA.
Cameron’s realm of coaching however is situated within the striking disciplines of Muay Thai and Boxing. He is able to teach a wide variety of skills, ranging from foot work fundamentals in boxing to advanced Muay Thai clinch techniques. Philosophy As a home grown talent, Cameron has moulded his training philosophy and perspectives similar to those of his long time coaches Scott Ireland and Ayo Odeyale. You must strive to train for improvement, learn something new every session and finish each training better than when you started. Education Even though Cameron’s life is martial arts, he has graduated with a bachelors degree in Sport and Exercise Management from the University of Technology Sydney. Additionally, Cameron has attained his Certificate 3 and 4 as a fitness professional and personal trainer from the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers. Cameron believes that his tertiary education has helped contribute to his development as a coach and martial artist.
